We all need one setup which we can truly believe in and become a true professional at it. Springs to me are the best one. They are the setup which early on allowed me to really turn things around, but only after working and working and working on them. No one helped me, I learned them completely on my own. There are endless variations how we can use them. At night while preparing, I go thru charts looking for 3 things with new symbols – first and most importantly, accum, where are the powerful support points in there, hence where springs could be potentially forming, looking for absorption, and during the day observing this also – and always looking for where springs could set up on all time frames. I move spring setups all around, and in all kinds of different technical situations. These situations are constantly discussed.
There’s only one way to hone your skills for trading springs – trade them. At first go over chart after chart after chart. No one taught me springs. It was just about discovering their existence, and then obsessively trying to learn all about them, hundreds of charts later, I began to believe in them. But not before loss after loss, but it slowly started to kick in how to trade them better. And don’t worry, you’ll never have a lot of competition trading them, except from the strong hands. They basically set those trades up for themselves and then they trade them. And you can trade the spring itself, or the retest of the spring. Some guys I’ve known will only trade the retests.
